Fluffy slime is SO COOL! It's just like regular slime, except it's fluffy and puffy and sooooo much fun! This just might be my favourite slime recipe that we've ever tried! Fluffy Slime Picture any normal slime recipe. Now imagine that same slime all puffed up and fluffy... kind of like a foam squishy. That's how I would describe fluffy slime. The foamy texture is really fun! Want to know what makes the slime fluffy? Shaving cream! (Which you can buy at the dollar store, by the way.) … [Read more...]

Hi there! It's Megan from Homemade Ginger and I'm back with another amazing slime idea! I keep waiting for the slime obsession to end at our house, but it is still going strong. My kids LOVE slime. I love that it is something that all four of my kids can do together. Even though we have a large age range from age 10 down to 2, all of them love to play with slime. We gave my oldest daughter a homemade slime kit for Christmas and she loves that she can go make a batch of slime all by … [Read more...]
Do you remember magic sand? You could buy it in the 1980's and make all sorts of fun things underwater. (Ooooo... you can still get it from this affiliate link on Amazon!) I wasn't lucky enough to have any as a kid, but my husband had some. He said his mom would let him and his brother fill the kitchen sink with water, then they'd pour their magic sand into the sink and play with it. He only remembers doing it once or twice though. Probably because playing with it in the sink is a terrible … [Read more...]
This snowstorm in a jar is such a fun winter science experiment! It's really easy to put together and it looks so cool when it starts "snowing"! With all the sparkly glitter, my kids said it looked like a snowglobe. They had so much fun dropping in the Alka Seltzer and watching the chemical reaction that causes the snowstorm! We're supposed to get 6 inches of snow today. I keep looking at the radar maps and looking out the window (still nothing), like it's some kind of exciting game. When is … [Read more...]
Hello! It's Megan from Homemade Ginger and I'm sharing a project that is also a fun science experiment for kids! If you live in an area that can have severe winter weather, you are probably very familiar with the mixed feelings that come when you hear that there is going to be a snow day. We have already had a few snow days this school year and while my kids are overjoyed, I am usually a little dismayed at preparing for being cooped up in the house for a few days. It's so tempting to give in … [Read more...]
I'm not an artist - so trust me - if I can make this painting, it has to be pretty easy! I HAD to try this art project just because it's fun. And cool. And sciency. (My browser is telling me that's not a real word... haha) This salt and watercolor snowflake art project actually teaches you something, and I LOVE that! I'll be the first person to raise my hand and admit, "I can't draw or paint". And trying to make me do either of those two things will make me want to hide my head in … [Read more...]
Have you seen that amazing pin floating around on Pinterest that shows someone holding a magical, glowing fairy jar? Here's a link to the pin so you can check it out for yourself. It shows glitter that appears to be floating around in the MIDDLE of the jar. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was probably very heavily photoshopped, but it was still inspiring, either way! It's been on our bucket list for ages and we finally tested it out for ourselves on the weekend! Today I'm going … [Read more...]
These coffee filter butterflies are such a classic craft! I love how easy they are to make and how the bright colours of the Mr. Sketch markers blend together to make gorgeous looking butterfly wings! (Don't worry, you can use regular washable markers too). Do you remember Mr. Sketch markers from when you were a kid? I was walking down the craft aisle at Walmart last year and saw them on display -- I was so excited to see that they still make them! I opened up the package, took the lid off of … [Read more...]
Earlier this spring I was driving home from my parents house through the country side with the kids. They live about 45 minutes away and the drive is mostly past corn fields and farms. My husband had stayed home that day, so I had the three kids in the van alone with me. There are very few things in this world that terrify me, but tornadoes are one of them. I still have nightmares about the movie Twister. (I'm pretty sure that movie has scarred me for life.) It was one of those days where the … [Read more...]
Did your mom ever get mad at you for blowing bubbles in your milk when you were a kid? I remember my mom used to give me a small glass full of milk and a straw to drink it out of. Then she'd sit me down at the kitchen table with an orange, yellow and gold striped place mat (ah, the 80's) and then within a few seconds I'd be busy blowing bubbles in my milk. Tell me you know what I'm talking about, because if you don't, you need to go down to the kitchen right now and pour yourself a glass of milk … [Read more...]
