Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Cut the bottle
- Remove the label and have an adult cut off the top part of a 500ml water bottle.
- Cut vertically down the water bottle, towards the cap.
- Repeat, cutting strips 1/8 inch wide around the bottle.
Step 3: Shape and decorate your firework
- Bend the plastic strips at different angles. Pull some of them down, and fluff up others in the middle.
- Add a small dot of hot glue to a sequin or piece of metallic confetti.Be careful, using a low temperature setting, as the confetti can get hot.
- Attach the confetti to the end of a plastic strip. Place it on the “inside” of the strip, so that when the plastic hangs down you can see the confetti. You can also put a decoration on either side of the strip if you’d like.
- Repeat until each end has a piece of confetti on it.
Step 4: Add lights
- Place a few round LED lights into the bottle cap. This will light up the firework bottle and make the confetti shimmer.
- Your water bottle fireworks craft is complete!
- Now turn off the lights and watch the fireworks bottle sparkle and glow!
Helpful Tips:
- You can make your own star confetti using a star punch and cardstock, or you can also attach star stickers to the bottle.
- Try different bottle sizes to make fireworks in various shapes and lengths! Juice bottles or mini soda bottles work well too.

What type of glue works best for this water bottle fireworks craft?
Hot glue works the best for this craft, as it ensures the shapes adhere quickly and well. Use a low temperature glue gun if working with younger kids.
If you don’t want to use hot glue, tacky glue is another good option. However, you’ll have to be careful how you attach the confetti, so that the pieces don’t move while the glue is still wet.
Glue tape or glue dots will also work for this firework craft, though they don’t offer as permanent a hold. This makes it harder to move the bottle around without losing pieces.

Where can I find LED lights that fit in the cap of my water bottle craft?
Mini battery-operated LED lights are perfect for this fireworks craft. Look for ones labeled “balloon lights” for a snug fit. You can even buy ones that have an on/off switch, and you can choose between white light, warm light, or coloured light options.

Can I add other decorations to my plastic bottle fireworks craft?
Absolutely! Add glitter glue, stickers, or coloured paper stars to the strips of your water bottle fireworks before fluffing them out. You can even wrap a sparkly pipe cleaner around the bottle cap for an extra pop of colour and shine.

These water bottle fireworks are such a fun way to celebrate the season! Whether you’re prepping for a holiday or just crafting for fun, this recycled craft is sure to be a hit with the kids. Light the fireworks up and watch them sparkle!
