Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Combine the first ingredients
- Pour 1/2 cup of clear glue into a bowl.
- Add 1-1/2 teaspoons of baking soda.
- Stir to mix the ingredients together well.
- Add food colouring to achieve your desired colour. (We used 3 drops of navy and 1 drop of blue).Stir well and add more food colouring, if needed.
- Add in your preferred glitter. We used fine blue glitter and fine iridescent white glitter.
Step 3: Activate the slime
- Stir to mix in the glitter, then activate the slime by adding 2-1/4 teaspoons of contact lens solution.
- Stir the mixture until you can’t anymore and it starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl. Press the mixture down to incorporate all the contact lens solution.
Step 4: Work the slime in your hands
- Pick up the slime out of the bowl and work it in your hands – stretching, kneading, and rolling. It’ll be sticky at first, but don’t panic! Continue working it and using the slime to clean itself off your hands.
- Continue until the slime no longer sticks to your hands. You can add a couple more drops of contact lens solution if it’s still a bit too sticky.
- Your ocean slime is complete!
- Now have fun playing with it, using little ocean charms, sea animal toys, or plastic coral!
Helpful Tips:
- Use clear glue: Clear glue helps your ocean slime look like real, sparkling water! White glue will work, but the effect won’t be quite as transparent or shimmery.
- Add more activator slowly: If your slime stays sticky after kneading, add more contact lens solution just a few drops at a time. Adding too much at once can make the slime stiff, and it will rip instead of stretch.

What’s the best way to colour my ocean slime?
We used blue food colouring and both blue and white iridescent glitter to make our slime ocean coloured. We like the look of fine glitter for this slime, but chunky glitter will also work well!
You can also colour your slime with liquid watercolour paint for a really deep blue, or even add in some mica powder to give it both colour and a pearlescent shimmer!

What else can I add to my DIY ocean slime?
There are so many possibilities for add-ins to your blue ocean slime! For added sensory fun, try adding ocean charms or miniature toy sea creatures. Your local dollar store or craft store should have some ocean-themed items suitable for adding to slime, or you can buy them online.
You can also add scent to your slime by using essential oils, such as sandalwood, plumeria, coconut, eucalyptus, or peppermint. You can use one scent, make a blend of a few, or buy a specific aquatic fragrance oil like ocean breeze or cool water.

What’s the best activator for my ocean themed slime?
We find that Renu Fresh contact lens solution works best when we make slime. Make sure whatever contact lens solution you use contains boric acid and sodium borate (it will be listed in the ingredients on the package or bottle), otherwise your glue mixture won’t turn into slime. Different brands may contain different amounts of boric acid, so you may need to adjust the amount of activator in your slime if you use a different brand.
You can also dissolve 1 teaspoon of borax into 1 cup of hot water and use this liquid as an activator. Add a little bit of the mixture at a time, since it’s easy to over-activate slime with borax.

Ocean slime is a simple and super fun summer craft that’s perfect for kids of all ages! With its deep blue shimmer and stretchy, satisfying texture, it’s the perfect way to bring a little bit of the beach into your home — no messy sand required. Happy slime making!
