How to Make Rainbow Slime
Watch the step-by-step video tutorial:
Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Mix the first ingredients
- Pour 1/3 cup of clear glue into a bowl.
- Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
- Stir well, until the baking soda is mixed completely into the glue.If there are any clumps, use the back of the spoon to try and break them up.
- Add 4 to 5 drops of liquid watercolor paint to the bowl. (Lighter colours, like yellow, may need more.)
Step 3: Activate the slime
- Mix the liquid watercolour into the glue, and then add 1-1/2 teaspoons of contact lens solution.
- Stir well. Squish the slime mixture down and keep stirring until the slime starts to come away from the bowl and you can’t stir any more.
- Pick up the slime and begin stretching and kneading it. It will be quite sticky at first, but don’t panic! This is normal, and it will get less sticky the more you work with it.
- Continue folding and stretching the slime until it no longer sticks to your hands.
Step 4: Repeat and combine the rainbow slime colours
- Repeat, following the same recipe to make slime in all the colours of the rainbow.
- Break off a tiny bit of each colour of slime and lay them out in rainbow order.
- You can also have fun making actual rainbows with the slime!
- Then have fun seeing how the rainbow colours mix as you play with the slime.Your rainbow slime is complete!
Helpful Tips:
- If your slime is still sticky, add 1/4 teaspoon of contact solution at a time. You can also put a couple of drops on your hands before playing to help reduce stickiness.
- You can also make rainbow slime using white glue instead of clear glue. It will give you a softer, pastel look that’s just as pretty!

What is used to colour rainbow slime?
You can use acrylic paint, food colouring, or liquid watercolours to colour your slime. Liquid watercolour paint will give you the most vibrant colours, but all three options work well!

How long does rainbow slime last?
Your slime should stay good for about a week or a little longer if stored in an airtight container. To keep the rainbow look, store each colour separately.
For longer lasting slime, always wash your hands first and play on a clean surface. And if the slime smells off or looks odd, it’s best to toss it and make a new batch.

Can I stop the rainbow slime colours from mixing?
Rainbow slime looks amazing when you first bring the colours together, but eventually they’ll blend into a purple shade as you play with it. That’s just part of the fun!
To get the most out of the rainbow effect, divide each colour into 10 small sections. This gives you more time to play and explore before they mix. And if you save your slime for a few days, the colours tend to blend more slowly!

Rainbow slime isn’t just bright and beautiful — it’s a fun, hands-on way to explore colour, creativity, and sensory play. Whether you’re making it for springtime fun, a St. Patrick’s Day activity, or simply because your day could use a splash of colour, this slime is sure to bring smiles all around.
Every swirl and stretch is a chance to experiment and play, making it a craft you’ll want to come back to again and again. So break out your slime making supplies, roll up your sleeves, and enjoy the magic of rainbows whenever inspiration strikes!
