What’s the best yarn for making crochet water balloons?
Blanket yarn is perfect for making crochet water balloons! It’s super soft (so getting hit won’t sting) and it’s highly absorbent, which means you’ll get a satisfying splash with every throw.
We especially like using Bernat blanket yarn, but feel free to use your favourite brand in fun colours!

How can I wash my crochet water balloons?
To wash your crochet water balloons, place them in a mesh laundry bag or tied pillowcase to keep them contained. Use cool water and the delicate cycle to help preserve their shape and texture.
To dry, either hang them outside or tumble dry on low heat. Avoid high heat, as it may affect the yarn’s softness or cause shrinkage.

How many crochet water balloons can I make from one ball of yarn?
You’ll be able to make a lot of balloons. We honestly can’t count how many you’ll be able to make, that’s how little yarn you need. It’s the perfect project to use up scrap yarn!
Are crochet water balloons safe for younger kids?
Yes, crochet water balloons are soft, gentle, and much safer than traditional balloons — especially since they don’t burst into small pieces.
Just be sure to supervise play and avoid throwing them too hard, especially around little faces.

Crochet water balloons are such a fun and simple way to bring handmade joy to your summer. With the free pattern, a couple basic supplies, and a little yarn, you’ll be ready to splash into eco-friendly fun in no time!
