Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials. The main instructions below will teach you how to make a small fidget toy. Follow the numbers and information in brackets to make a larger marble fidget.
Step 2: Make 2 squares
- Make a slip knot with colour A (the main colour/background of the fidget toy) and tighten it on your hook.Chain 11 (21).
- Starting from the second chain from your hook, insert 1 half double crochet into each chain across.
- Chain 1 and insert 1 half double crochet into each stitch across.
- Repeat this until you have a total of 8 (12) rows of half double crochet.
- Cut and tie off your yarn, sewing in the ends.
- Repeat step 2 to make a second square (rectangle).
Step 3: Attach the squares
- Place 1 piece on top of the other, lining up the edges.
- Attach colour B (border colour) to your hook and insert it through both pieces, into the the first stitch in the top corner. Chain 1.
- Insert 1 half double crochet into each stitch across (through both layers).
- To turn the corner, insert a half double crochet into the last stitch like usual. Then chain 1 and insert another half double crochet.(This second half double crochet becomes the first stitch of the next side.)
- Turn your work counter-clockwise and continue inserting half double crochets down this side.
- Turn the corner and repeat down the next side.
Step 4: Add a marble and close off the toy
- Before connecting the last side together, add a marble between the two pieces.
- Half double crochet the last side together. To finish the last corner, add a half double crochet into the last stitch, then chain 1 and slip stitch into the first stitch.
- Cut a 12 (24) inch piece of yarn in colour B and thread it through a yarn needle.Insert your needle into the fidget toy along one of the side edges, about 1 inch from the top (or whatever size you need for the marble to easily slide through).
- Sew a backstitch through both layers of the toy, going about 2/3 of the way across.(For the larger toy, go most of the way across, leaving just enough room for the marble to move down — about 1 inch.)
- Bring your needle and yarn to the back, tying off the yarn to secure it.
- Repeat, making a second line about 1 inch below the first, but starting from the opposite side.(For the larger toy, add a third line as well, beginning from the first side once again.)
- Sew in all the yarn tails.
- Your crochet fidget toy is complete.
- Have fun making both sizes of marble fidget toys and seeing which one is the most soothing!

What size crochet fidget toy does this pattern make?
The small fidget toy is about 3-1/4 inches square. The larger fidget is about 4-3/4 inches tall and 5-1/2 inches wide. There are instructions for both sizes in our printable pattern.
The exact dimensions will, of course, depend on your yarn size and tension.

What type of marble is needed to make a crochet sensory toy?
We recommend using a glass marble or a smooth bead that’s at least 15mm in size. You can use larger marbles if you prefer, just be sure the sewn paths in your toy are wide enough for the marble to move through easily.
While large beads will work, glass marbles are ideal. They slide more smoothly and have a bit of weight to them, which helps create that calming, gliding sensation that makes the toy so satisfying to use.

Can I wash this crochet marble fidget?
Yes! You can machine wash the fidget toy on a gentle cycle or hand wash it in warm (not hot), soapy water. Just be sure the marble is securely stitched inside before washing.
Then allow the toy to air dry flat before using. Stretch it gently into shape again, as needed.

This easy crochet fidget toy is a fun little project with a big purpose. Whether you’re making it for sensory play, stress relief, or just something to keep your hands busy, it’s a simple way to crochet something meaningful. The gentle movement of the marble offers a calming effect that can help with focus, making it a great tool for kids, adults, and anyone managing ADHD, anxiety, or sensory needs.
Plus, it’s quick to make, easy to customize, and perfect for gifting! Once you’ve made one, you’ll want to stitch up a whole set in different colours. Happy crocheting!
