How to Make Pumpkin Slime
Materials:
- Small pumpkin
- Clear glue
- Baking soda
- Food colouring (orange)
- Contact lens solution
Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Remove the guts from a pumpkin
- Have an adult use a sharp knife to cut open the top of a small or medium sized pie pumpkin.
- Use a spoon to scrape the guts and seeds from the pumpkin and place them in a bowl.
- You’ll need about 1 cup of pumpkin guts to make this slime.
- Use the knife (or scissors) to cut up the larger pieces of guts. This ensures they’ll mix evenly into the slime, instead of staying in large clumps.
Step 3: Mix the first ingredients
- Add 1/2 cup clear glue into the pumpkin guts.
- Then sprinkle 1 teaspoon of baking soda on top.
- Stir well to combine the ingredients.
- Optional: Add a couple drops of orange food colouring if you’d like your pumpkin slime to be even more pumpkin-y in colour.
Step 4: Activate the pumpkin guts slime
- Start by adding 1 Tablespoon of contact lens solution to the bowl.
- Stir to combine and then add another Tablespoon of contact solution. The pumpkin guts have a lot of moisture, so it can take quite a bit of solution to get rid of the ultra sticky feel.
- After you’ve added 2 Tablespoons of contact solution and stirred the slime well, pick it up and begin squishing and kneading the slime with your hands. It may still be sticky at first, so it helps to have a friend handy to add more solution to the slime. Continue adding contact solution a few drops at a time until the slime comes off your hands more easily.
- Your pumpkin slime is complete!
Helpful Tips:
- Chop up the guts first: Before adding the pumpkin guts to your slime, give them a quick chop with scissors or a knife. This helps them mix into the slime better and keeps them from staying in big, stringy clumps.
- Food colouring is optional — but fun! Your slime will already have a bit of an orange tint from the pumpkin guts, but adding orange food colouring makes it look even more like a real pumpkin! It’s totally up to you — both versions are fun and festive.

Do I have to use pumpkin guts to make pumpkin slime?
Nope! If you don’t want to dig into a real pumpkin, you can make an easy pumpkin-themed slime instead. Just mix together 1/2 cup of clear glue, 1 teaspoon baking soda, a few drops of orange food colouring, and 2-1/4 teaspoons contact lens solution.
Optional: Add glitter for a festive touch, or even stir in some raw pumpkin seeds for a fun texture.

What kind of glue works best for making pumpkin slime?
Clear glue is the best choice for this slime! It lets you see all the cool pumpkin guts and seeds inside the slime.
If you use white glue, it’ll still work to create slime — but you won’t be able to see the guts and it won’t look very pumpkin-y anymore.

My pumpkin slime is super sticky. How do I fix it?
That’s totally normal! Pumpkin guts are full of moisture, which makes this slime much stickier than a usual slime recipe. Plus it can be hard to know the exact amount of activator to add, since each pumpkin is a bit different.
To make the slime less sticky, add extra contact lens solution a little bit at a time. Keep kneading the slime with your hands before adding more. It might take a few minutes, but eventually the slime will stop sticking as much to your fingers.
Helpful Tip: Your hands might be quite sticky when first mixing the slime, so having a friend around to add the contact solution for you is really helpful!

Whether you’re scooping out pumpkins for spooky faces or just looking for a new fall slime recipe, pumpkin slime is a squishy, surprising way to enjoy the mess! It’s the perfect mix of science, sensory fun, and seasonal magic.
So don’t toss those pumpkin guts just yet — turn them into something wonderfully weird! From sticky beginnings to stretchy, gooey fun, this slime is sure to be a Halloween hit.
