How to Make Monster Slime
Materials:
For the monster slime:
To decorate the jars:
- Craft foam sheets (white and black)
- Googly eyes (multiple sizes)
- Small jar (with airtight lid)
Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Mix the first ingredients
- Pour 1/2 cup of clear glue in a bowl.
- Add 1-1/2 teaspoons of baking soda and mix well.
- Add a generous amount of fine glitter in your favourite monster colour to cover the top of the glue mixture.
- Then add chunky glitter or sequins in the same colour. Stir to mix well.
Step 3: Activate the slime
- Add 2-1/4 teaspoons of contact lens solution to the bowl.
- Stir well, until all the contact solution is combined and the mixture pulls away from the bowl.
- Now pick up the slime and knead it with your hands. It’ll be a bit sticky at first, but as you stretch it, this will go away.Add a few more drops of contact solution, if necessary.
- Now place the slime in an airtight container and wait overnight. This allows the slime to clear up.You don’t have to wait, but the slime will look better the next day.
Step 4: Make a monster jar (optional)
- To create a home for your monster slime you’ll need a small jar, googly eye(s), and craft foam.
- Cut teeth or other facial features from the craft foam. Use tacky glue to attach these and the googly eye to the side of the jar.
Step 5: Enjoy your monster slime
- Your monster slime is complete! You don’t need a special jar to have fun with your monster slime. Simply add the face to the slime itself and watch the monster’s expression stretch as you play with it.
- Or store your monster slime in the jar, and make some colourful monster friends to go along with it!
Helpful Tips:
- Let it rest overnight: If you place your slime in an airtight container overnight it’ll become more clear. This makes the glitter stand out even more for that sparkly monster look!
- Try a borax solution: Instead of baking soda and contact solution, you can mix 1 teaspoon of borax into 1 cup of warm water. Add a tiny bit at a time to activate your slime. If you use this method, skip the baking soda.

What’s the best glue for this monster slime recipe?
Clear glue is our favourite because it really lets the glitter shine through. But white glue works too — it just gives your slime a more opaque, pastel look.

What other add-ins can I put in monster slime?
You can get creative with all sorts of fun extras! Try pony beads, sequins, confetti, or buttons.
You can also make the recipe as is and use acrylic table scatter or little monster charms when you play with your slime.

How can I decorate the jar to hold my monster slime?
We decorated our jars with googly eyes and craft foam, cut into fangs, stitch marks, and a silly monster mouth. But you can definitely mix it up! Try one or more of the following:
- Use buttons or rhinestones as eyes.
- Paint a monster face right on the jar.
- Add gauze or tissue paper for a mummy effect.
- Wrap with yarn or faux fur to create a fuzzy monster.
- Use glow in the dark stickers, or cut glow in the dark vinyl, to create a fun face.
- Add bat wings, horns, or tentacles made from construction paper or pipe cleaners.

Monster slime is such a fun way to combine creativity, sensory play, and a little spooky charm. With glittery colours, silly monster jars, and endless ways to customize, this slime is perfect for Halloween or anytime. It’s also fun for birthday parties and afternoons of crafting fun.
