How to Make Gummy Bear Slime
Equipment:
Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Melt the gummy bears
- First, sort the gummy bears by colour into different bowls. We recommend doing this, unless you want a random brown-ish colour of slime from the mixed gummy bears. (Probably not, haha…)
- Add 3/4 cup of gummy bears to a measuring cup or glass bowl.(You’ll probably need more than 1 package to get this amount in one colour. Read more details below the tutorial.)
- Microwave the gummy bears for 15 seconds and then stir. Microwave another 15 seconds and stir again. The gummy bears will be liquid and VERY HOT, so be careful.
Step 3: Add the other ingredients
- Once the gummy bear liquid has cooled a bit (wait about 5 minutes), add 1/4 cup powdered sugar and stir.
- Repeat with 1/4 cup cornstarch.
- Then add 1 teaspoon coconut oil and stir. This will help the gummy bear slime stretch. Now wait 5 to 10 minutes, letting the mixture cool more and giving the cornstarch time to absorb into the gummy bear mixture.
Step 4: Mix the gummy bear slime
- Pour the gummy bear slime mixture onto a baking sheet or other clean surface.
- Use your hands to mix the gummy bear slime. You may need to add a bit more cornstarch and icing sugar to keep the slime from sticking to your hands.
- Once the slime isn’t so sticky you can pick it up and fully mix it with your hands. If the slime is still sticky, coat your hands with cornstarch before playing with it.
- Your gummy bear slime is complete!
Helpful Tips:
- Let the melted gummy mixture cool first. Don’t touch the gummy bear liquid right after microwaving — it’s very hot. Let it cool closer to room temperature before handling.
- Use cornstarch to reduce stickiness. If the slime feels a little sticky, lightly coat your hands with cornstarch before playing. You can also dust your play surface with a bit of cornstarch to help prevent sticking.

How many bags of gummy bears do I need to make this edible slime?
This depends on the bag size of your gummy bears. We used Sweet Shoppe gummy bears from the dollar store, which come in 125 g (4.4 oz) bags. It took 4 bags to make about 3/4 cup of each colour.

How can I make my gummy bear slime soft again?
Because this slime is more taffy-like, it can firm up over time — even if it’s stored in an airtight container. To soften it again, place the slime on a microwave-safe plate or dish and heat it for 10 to 20 seconds. It should be warm (not hot) before playing, to make it stretchy again.
How long does gummy bear slime last?
Stored in an airtight container, gummy bear slime should last at least 2 weeks, though it’s better on the first day. You’ll need to warm the slime up slightly to soften it again before playing.

Is gummy bear slime an edible slime?
This gummy bear slime is made with food ingredients, so it’s technically edible, but we consider it more taste-safe.
It’s safe to eat and definitely not dangerous in small amounts, but because it contains raw cornstarch (which can be hard on digestion), we recommend limiting tasting to a bite or two and focusing on it as a sensory play activity.

Gummy bear slime is a fun and creative way to turn a favourite candy into a hands-on sensory experiment. Watching gummy bears melt and transform into a soft, stretchy slime makes this activity feel part science, part play — and totally fascinating for kids (and adults!). Whether you’re exploring textures, experimenting with colours, or just enjoying the novelty of candy slime, this taste-safe recipe is a playful twist on sensory fun that’s sure to be memorable!
