Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Create your stamp
- On a scrap piece of cardboard, draw a design for your stamp using a marker. You can make a shape or write a word, but remember that whatever you write must be backwords so that it stamps the word the right way.
- Trace the letters or shape with hot glue. For the smoothest letters we recommend using the hottest setting on your glue gun.
- Cut a smaller piece of cardboard. Add some hot glue to one side.
- Place this cardboard on the back of the cardboard that has your word or shape on it.This will act as a bit of a “handle” to grip as you use the stamp, as well as give added stability to the cardboard.
Step 3: Stamp a card
- Set another piece of cardboard, or a piece of craft foam, on your working surface. It should be something that has a little “give” to it.
- Cut a piece of cardstock and fold it into a card. Open the card and set it down with the front toward you.
- Use a paintbrush to gently add paint to the raised glue on the cardboard stamp. Try not to get any paint on the rest of the cardboard.
- Flip the stamp over and press it down onto the front center of the card. Press down on each part of the stamp to get an even print.
- Lift the stamp and allow the paint to dry on the card.
- Your glue gun stamped valentine is complete!
Helpful Tips:
- If you’re making these stamps with kids, it’s best to use a low temperature glue gun instead of using the hottest setting. It may not create as smooth a surface, but safety is more important.
- Smaller kids can draw their designs on cardboard and have adults trace over them with hot glue.
- Always test new stamps on scrap paper before stamping on your final card. You can test your stamp with different amounts of paint and pressure until you achieve the desired look. Then stamp your final card in the same way.
Can I re-use my hot glue valentine stamp?
Yes, these stamps are reusable! It’s best to clean the stamp immediately after using it to prevent paint from drying and building up on the surface.
Simply wipe the glue off the stamp with a damp paper towel to remove any leftover paint, and it’s ready to stamp again!
What type of paper works best for my glue gun stamped valentines?
Thicker cardstock is the best paper for these glue gun valentines. It’s durable, tolerates the paint well, and has a smooth surface that produces a nice, clean stamp.
