Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Make the ears and feet
- Print the Easter bunny egg template (find the link in the materials list above!) and cut out the pieces.
- Trace the ear template twice onto white cardstock and cut the pieces.
- Use a light pink marker to colour the insides of the ears.
- Trace the other template piece and cut 2 feet from white cardstock. Optional: Use the same pink marker to draw little cartoon rabbit foot pads on the bottoms.
Step 3: Attach the cardstock pieces to the egg
- Hard boil an egg and allow it to cool. You can also use a plastic Easter egg.
- Add a small amount of hot glue to the back side of one paper foot.
- Attach it to the bottom of the egg so the toes are pointing to the side. Repeat with the other foot.
- Add a dot of hot glue to the bottom (flat part) of the ears and attach them to the top of the egg.
Step 4: Add the final details
- Draw the bunny’s face onto the egg with black permanent marker.
- Use light pink permanent marker to add rosy cheeks.
- Add a small dot of hot glue to the bottom back of the bunny egg. Press a small white pom pom into the glue for the tail.
- Your Easter bunny egg is complete!
- Now have fun making a whole group, giving each adorable Easter bunny egg its own unique personality!
Helpful Tips:
- You may want to patch test your black marker. We tried using a non-Sharpie permanent marker, and the ink didn’t get absorbed by the egg shell and never dried. We had to wipe the marker off and try again with a Sharpie. A black paint pen will also work.
- After making these Easter bunny eggs, we discovered that bunnies don’t actually have paw pads like dogs or cats! We still like the look of the cartoon style paws on our bunny eggs, even though real rabbits feet are covered in fur.

How can I make these Easter bunny eggs without using real eggs?
There are lots of substitutes for real eggs that can be used for this Easter egg bunny craft! You can use colourful plastic Easter eggs or even dyable white plastic eggs.
You might also be able to find styrofoam eggs or wooden eggs at your local craft store. If not, make your own egg shape from air dry clay, or fill a balloon with rice or sand (like a stress ball) and shape it into an egg.

Are these bunny Easter eggs edible after decorating?
These Easter bunny eggs should not be eaten. In order for Easter eggs to be edible they need to be made with food-safe dyes and they shouldn’t be out of the fridge for more than 2 hours.
Since our Easter egg bunnies have glue and permanent marker on them, they are not safe to eat.
We recommend making this craft with plastic eggs, for a long-lasting and fun decoration that’s safe to keep on display. And if you’re looking for edible Easter eggs, try our super cool tie dye Easter eggs!
