How to Make Crazy Headbands
Watch the step-by-step video tutorial:
Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Curl your pipe cleaners
- Gather 12 pipe cleaners in your favourite colours.
- Wrap one pipe cleaner around a pencil, creating a spring shape.
- Slide the pipe cleaner off the pencil. Stretch it out so it looks like a firework popping into the sky.
- Wrap another pipe cleaner around a marker (or something else thicker than a pencil).
- Remove the pipe cleaner from the marker. Stretch it out.
- Wrap another pipe cleaner around a thicker marker. Slide it off and stretch it out, creating a wider coil.
- Repeat with the remaining pipe cleaners. Wrap an equal amount of pipe cleaners around each size of marker or pencil.
Step 3: Glue the pipe cleaners to the headband
- Add hot glue to the top center of a thin metal headband.
- Place the end of a curled pipe cleaner into the glue. Hold it in place until it stays on its own.
- Repeat, attaching the rest of the pipe cleaners to the top of the headband. We recommend adding the pipe cleaners in different directions. For example, if one end points forward at the base, attach the next so it points backwards, and so on.
- Arrange the pipe cleaners, bending them in different directions until you’re happy with the look.
Step 4: Add decorations
- Add hot glue to a glitter pom pom.
- Attach the pom pom to the top of one of the pipe cleaners.
- Glue various pom poms to the tops of 8 other pipe cleaners.
- Peel the backing off a self-adhesive foam star. Attach it under the tip of one of the remaining pipe cleaners.
- Remove the backing from a second star, line up the edges with the first star, and press so the backs stick together, around the pipe cleaner.
- Repeat, adding more stars to at least a couple other pipe cleaners.
- Your crazy headband is complete!Have fun wearing it at your next get-together or celebration.
Helpful Tips:
- To add more variety to your headband, try alternating the direction you glue the pipe cleaners on. We glued one pointing forward, then one pointing back, and repeated this pattern for the rest of the pipe cleaners.
- If you don’t have self-adhesive glitter foam stars, you can also use star stickers. You can even cut your own stars from glitter foam and use hot glue to attach them.
How can I make each pipe cleaner headband unique?
There are lots of ways to give all your party headbands their own individual style! Try adding more pipe cleaners for a fuller look, or change the length of the pipe cleaners.
Or try attaching number stickers to the top of the pipe cleaners for a special way to ring in the new year! You could also cut your own numbers from craft foam.
When else can I use these crazy hair headbands?
