These wooden spoon bunnies and chicks are so fun and they're so easy to make! They make me smile. And did you ever realize what shape the top of a spoon is!? That's right - an Easter egg shape!! So not only can you make bunnies and chicks, you can also make Easter eggs to go along with them! You can scroll on down to see my (terrible) painted Easter eggs. Apparently it's harder than it looks to paint intricate simple patterns onto eggs. What can I say? I am definitely not an artist when it … [Read more...]
Preschooler and Toddler Activities
These crafts and activities are perfect for little hands! Young children love exploring the world around them and learning through sensory play.

Aren't these pom pom sheep adorable!? They're so easy to make, and they're such a fun little craft for springtime! You don't need any special tools to make the DIY pom poms. Just a ball of yarn and your own hands! OK, I might be enjoying the pom pom crafts too much. The pom pom penguins I made earlier this year were just so cute. And then I made pom pom dragons a few weeks ago. And because those little dragons were based on the dragon from How to Train Your Dragon, my 9 year old LOVED … [Read more...]
These beaded pipe cleaner butterflies are so pretty and so sparkly, and best of all, they're really easy to make!! You can make them in whatever colours you have on hand. I went with random colours from the same colour families for my butterflies, but you can also make them from one bead colour, rather than mixed. Or in a pattern. There's lots of options! My girls have a pretty big stash of beads at home. We've made our fair share of necklaces and bracelets over the years. I guess we're not … [Read more...]
I LOVE crafts that use simple craft materials! These beaded pipe cleaner dragonflies are so awesome because you only need 3 things to make them - pipe cleaners, beads and googly eyes. That's it! And most people have those in their stash of craft supplies somewhere. And even if you don't, you should be able to find all the supplies you'll need at the dollar store. You can make one of these dragonflies in less than 5 minutes. Quick and easy! I love when the kids can actually play with their … [Read more...]
This post is in partnership with Paramount Pictures. As always, the opinions are entirely my own. Have you seen the previews for Wonder Park yet? It looks like such a fun movie! It's coming to theaters on March 15th and would be such a great movie to take the whole family to see! We put together a tutorial for how to make paper roll animals, inspired by the characters in Wonder Park. These characters are cute, colourful and they look so funny in the movie! The trailer just makes me … [Read more...]
Hi there! It's Megan from Homemade Ginger and I'm happy to share a cheerful spring craft today! Hopefully this fun idea will get you and your kids in the mood for some warmer weather! With the season of spring approaching, there are so many reasons for kids to start making (and bringing home) handmade cards, flowers, paintings and all kinds of cute spring projects. I have three girls in school right now and between the three of them, I am inundated with papers and artwork every day. I have to … [Read more...]
When I made marshmallow play dough awhile back, I thought I nailed it. I thought it was the best edible play dough recipe ever! But step aside marshmallow play dough, because this edible frosting play dough, made with only 2 ingredients - that's right TWO - is amazing!! This is the easiest play dough recipe I've ever tried. And the consistency of the play dough is perfect. It's soft, silky smooth, and perfectly moldable. My kids are still at school, but man am I ever excited to give it to … [Read more...]
This snowstorm in a jar is such a fun winter science experiment! It's really easy to put together and it looks so cool when it starts "snowing"! With all the sparkly glitter, my kids said it looked like a snowglobe. They had so much fun dropping in the Alka Seltzer and watching the chemical reaction that causes the snowstorm! We're supposed to get 6 inches of snow today. I keep looking at the radar maps and looking out the window (still nothing), like it's some kind of exciting game. When is … [Read more...]
This northern lights chalk art project for kids is so simple yet so beautiful! There is something so fun about working with chalk on a black piece of construction paper! It's almost magical that the chalk begins to look like a glowing light on the paper! My poor 8 year old was home with a cold the other day and was happy to help me figure out the best way to make northern lights. (Plus it helped me get her away from the TV for awhile.) We sat together on my office floor and tried a few … [Read more...]
I'm not an artist - so trust me - if I can make this painting, it has to be pretty easy! I HAD to try this art project just because it's fun. And cool. And sciency. (My browser is telling me that's not a real word... haha) This salt and watercolor snowflake art project actually teaches you something, and I LOVE that! I'll be the first person to raise my hand and admit, "I can't draw or paint". And trying to make me do either of those two things will make me want to hide my head in … [Read more...]
