Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Cut the shapes for the bunny
- Cut a “cone” shaped section from an egg carton. This is the part that separates the egg sections, and will become the bunny’s body.
- Then, cut bunny ears and feet from the sides of the carton.
Step 3: Paint the pieces
- Paint the egg carton pieces with acrylic paint. For the feet and ears, paint one side, let them dry, and then paint the other side.
- Paint a wooden ball to be the bunny’s head. Allow to dry and add a second coat, if necessary.
- Use white paint and a fine-tipped brush to add details to the ears and feet.
Step 4: Glue the pieces together
- Once the paint is dry, add a generous dot of hot glue to the top of the body.
- Place the head in the glue and hold it in place until it stays on its own.
- Add glue to the bottom back of the feet and press them into place near the bottom of the body.
- Add a very thin line of hot glue to the bottom of an ear.
- Press it into place on the head. Repeat with the second ear on the other side.
- Glue a white pom pom tail to the back of the bunny.
Step 5: Draw the bunny’s face
- Use a fine-tipped black marker to draw the bunny’s face.
- Your egg carton bunny finger puppet is complete!
- Have fun making a bunch of cute bunny puppets in a variety of colours.
- Then set them on your fingers and let the puppet play begin!
Helpful Tips:
- Acrylic craft paint works best for covering the wooden ball and egg carton, but if you’re crafting with young kids, you’ll want to make sure you’re using a kid-safe non-toxic paint.
- Hot glue sticks the bunny puppet together quickly, but tacky glue will also work well. You’ll just have to hold the ears in place until they stay on their own.

What if I don’t have a wooden ball for this Easter bunny finger puppet?
There are several great alternatives to wooden balls for this bunny finger puppet craft! Wooden beads will also work, even though they have holes in them, or you can use foam balls.
You can also make your own lightweight bunny head by crumpling aluminum foil into a ball. Then cover the foil with paper mache or decoupage (paper napkins or cotton balls work well).

How can kids decorate their egg carton puppets?
It’s super fun for kids to experiment with colours and patterns on their Easter finger puppets. They can paint bunnies in their favourite shades, or experiment with polka dots, colour splotches, or playful stripes.
Then add googly eyes, tiny bows, and/or mini ribbon scarves to give each bunny its own unique personality. You can also transform the egg carton rabbit into a stick puppet by attaching a popsicle stick inside to use as a handle.

What else can I do with these bunny finger puppets?
These egg carton bunny finger puppets aren’t just for storytelling—they also make adorable Easter decorations. For a whimsical springtime touch, tuck the bunnies into potted plants!
You can also attach a small metal eye screw to the top of the wooden ball and add a ribbon hanger to create a charming bunny ornament. Make a whole set and string them onto twine or ribbon for a festive Easter garland!
