How to Make Fall Slime
Materials:
- Clear glue
- Baking soda
- Food colouring (red)
- Mica powder (wine, bronze)
- Glitter (gold, bronze)
- Fall leaf glitter
- Contact lens solution

Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Mix the first ingredients
- Pour 1/2 cup of clear glue into a bowl.
- Add 1 teaspoon baking soda. Stir well to combine.
- Add a couple of drops of red food colouring. Stir.
- Next we’re going to add mica powder. This is optional, but recommended.Mica powder will enhance the colour of the slime and give it a pearlescent sheen. We added 2 small spoons of “red wine” colour and 1 spoon of “bronze”.(Note that we used spoons that came with our mica powder. They’re probably about 1/16 teaspoon in size.)
- Still well to combine the powder into the slime mixture. You’ll see how shimmery the mica powder makes the slime!
- Then add a couple colours of glitter. We added gold and bronze here, but you can also add red, white iridescent, or whatever shade you’d like that matches the slime.
- After stirring in the glitter, pour in some fall leaf confetti. Again, stir to combine.
Step 3: Activate the slime
- Add 2-1/4 teaspoons of contact lens solution to the bowl.
- Stir to mix in the contact solution until you can’t stir anymore. The slime will thicken and pull away from the bowl.
- Pick up the slime and knead it, stretching it with your hands. It might be sticky at first, but after working with it for a couple minutes the stickiness should go away.If it’s still sticky add more contact solution, a few drops at a time.
- Place the slime in an airtight container and wait overnight.This is optional, but will make the slime less cloudy looking, darkening the colour.
- Your fall slime is complete!
Helpful Tips:
- Create several fall leaf colours: We made deep red slime and a golden orange-yellow version, but you could also try rusty brown, burgundy, or green to represent leaves at different stages of the season.
- Add activator very slowly: If the slime still feels sticky, mix in only a few extra drops of contact solution at a time. Adding too much can quickly make the slime firm and rubbery instead of soft and stretchy.
- A little stickiness is okay: Slime often becomes less sticky after sitting overnight, so it’s fine to store it while it still feels slightly tacky rather than over-activating it.
What type of glue should I use for fall slime?
Clear school glue gives the slime a glossy, translucent look that allows the glitter, mica powder, and leaf confetti to show through. It also creates brighter, jewel-like fall colours.
White school glue will still make a nice slime, but the finished colours will look softer and more muted. It can also make smaller add-ins harder to see, so clear glue is the better choice for the sparkling effect shown in our photos.
What add-ins can I put in my fall slime?
Glitter and tiny fall leaf confetti give the slime plenty of seasonal sparkle. We also tried fall leaf resin charms, which look cute pressed into the slime or placed on top for photos.
Other fun options include gold foil flakes, orange sequins, leaf-shaped glitter, or small autumn-coloured foam beads. Avoid adding anything sharp or rough that could be uncomfortable during play.
How can I add colour to fall slime?
We used a combination of food colouring, mica powder, and glitter. Food colouring creates the main base colour, while mica powder adjusts the shade and adds a beautiful pearlescent sheen.
Acrylic paint can also be used to colour slime, and metallic acrylic paint is especially pretty for an autumn theme. Add the colour gradually so you can control the final shade without using more than you need.
How do I make the golden fall slime?
Our golden orange-yellow slime was coloured with goldenrod mica powder instead of food colouring. The mica created a rich autumn shade with a soft metallic sheen.
We also mixed in coordinating gold glitter for extra sparkle. Start with a small amount of mica powder, mix thoroughly, and add more until the slime reaches the colour you want. Keep in mind that it’ll darken a bit as it sits overnight.
