Print one of our free Christmas pencil topper templates and cut out the shape.Find the pattern link for the Christmas tree pencil topper in the materials list above, or scroll down below the tutorial.
Trace the pattern and cut 2 tree shapes from green felt.
Step 3: Sew the felt pieces together
Place 1 felt tree on top of the other and line up the edges.
Thread a needle with green thread. Push the needle through both layers of felt. Tie the end of the thread in a double knot.
Sew a running stitch along the outside of the shape, going up and down through the layers.(You can also do a blanket stitch for a fancier finish.)
Continue the stitch almost all the way around. Leave a 1 inch gap at the bottom, where the pencil will go. Stitch back and forth through the last stitch several times to anchor it in place. Finish off the thread by pushing it up through the top layer of felt and cutting the excess.
Step 4: Decorate the tree
Add a very small amount of hot glue to a sequin.
Press the sequin onto the front of the tree.
Repeat, adding more sequin ornaments to the front of the tree.(You can also sew the sequins on before you connect the two sides of the tree, if you don't want to glue them.)
Flip the tree over and add sequins to the other side too.
Insert the top of a pencil into the unsewn part of the tree.
Your Christmas pencil topper is complete!
Now have fun making all the other festive designs!
