Remember giving out Valentines to all your friends back in elementary school? Or how amazing Valentine’s Day was when you were all lovey dovey in high school? Those were fun times! Roses, cheesy music, candlelit dinners. Weren’t those the best?!
Before my husband and I had kids, Valentine’s Day was so romantic. We’d spend a quiet evening alone together, basking in each other’s presence. One of our last childless Valentine’s Days we stayed overnight at a gorgeous little villa, and got pampered with a gourmet meal and chocolates on our pillows. *sigh* Now as I spend an hour each night doing dishes and scraping sticky rice off my socks, I dream of days like that!
Once you’ve been married for a few years, Valentine’s Day gets a little bit overlooked. And if you have kids, my goodness, it’s even worse! Now the only thing we bask in are the five minutes that the kitchen is tidy each evening, and the half an hour after the kids go to bed where we sit shell shocked on the couch. (Can you tell the kids have been wearing on me the last few days? haha)
But it is kind of fun to make special Valentine’s Day treats with the kids. They LOVE holidays, so it kind of brings back the fun and excitement of Valentine’s Day to watch it through their eyes! Whether you’re married, dating or single, Valentine’s Day is an awesome time to celebrate love, especially the love of your family.
