Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Cut the egg shapes
- Print our free honeycomb Easter egg template.(We recommend printing the template on cardstock or copying the pattern onto cardboard for a sturdy template that’s easy to trace).
- Trace the egg template onto coloured cardstock and cut 20 pieces.
Step 3: Fold and glue each egg
- Fold each of the eggs in half vertically.
- Open one of the folded eggs and add a line of glue across the center, horizontally.
- Fold in half again, pressing down to make it stick. Repeat for the rest of the pieces. (You can place them under a paperweight or heavy book to keep them pressed together while you work.)
Step 4: Glue the eggs together
- Add 2 horizontal lines of glue to one side of the folded shape: 1 towards the top and 1 towards the bottom.
- Set another one of the eggs on top of the egg with glue, lining up the edges as you connect them.
- Repeat this process until all the folded eggs are glued together.
- Make sure the eggs are well lined up, then add a binder clip to the straight edge to keep the papers together as the glue dries. (It will take several hours for the glue to dry, but we prefer to leave it overnight.)
Step 5: Connect the 2 sides
- Once the glue is completely dry, remove the binder clip and slowly open the papers to reveal a honeycomb shape.
- Add 2 lines of glue to one of the flat sides (the former top or bottom of the bundle).
- Bring the outside edges together, creating a rounded egg shape. Secure the papers in place with small binder clips (or paper clips) to keep the egg together as the glue dries once again.
Step 6: Remove the binder clips
- Remove the binder clips and gently encourage the pockets to open, if need be.
- Your honeycomb Easter egg is complete!
- Optional: turn your honeycomb egg into an ornament by adding a string hanger!Check out our honeycomb ornament tutorial for instructions on how to do this.
Helpful Tips:
- Be careful not to add too much glue to the template pieces or they might stick together in places you don’t want. Open the folds slowly and carefully after the glue has dried in case there are any extra sticky spots.
- If you want to make Easter eggs in different sizes, adjust the scale of the pattern (smaller or larger) before printing.

What type of paper works best for making a honeycomb egg?
We recommend using cardstock for your paper honeycomb Easter eggs. Sturdy cardstock helps create a cleaner look, a more durable 3D paper egg, and ensures your DIY Easter decoration lasts for seasons to come. Plus, it holds its shape better than thinner paper does.
That said, regular printer paper can still be used, especially if you’re crafting with kids. But keep in mind that a lightweight paper Easter egg may be a bit wobbly and less durable in storage. If you want a long-lasting Easter craft, cardstock or scrapbook paper is your best bet!

What type of glue works best for making honeycomb Easter egg decorations?
School glue or tacky glue are the best options for making honeycomb Easter eggs because they dry clear and provide a strong hold. Tacky glue is slightly thicker, which helps keep the paper in place while drying, while school glue offers a smoother application.
For extra precision, especially when applying small glue lines, use a fine-tip glue applicator to ensure clean and even adhesion.

How can I display my paper honeycomb Easter eggs?
