What’s the best yarn for making a crochet pumpkin coaster?
100% cotton yarn is definitely the best yarn for making crochet coasters. We used Loops & Threads Classic Cotton to make these pumpkin coasters, but we’re also a big fan of Bernat handicrafter yarn.
Cotton yarn creates coasters that are durable, absorbent, and easy to clean. Acrylic isn’t recommended for coasters since it doesn’t absorb liquids well and isn’t as heat-resistant as cotton.

How long does it take to make crochet pumpkin coasters?
Each coaster takes about 20 minutes to make if you’re familiar with the stitches. It’ll take a bit longer if you’re new to crochet.
Can I make these pumpkin coasters without orange yarn?
Yes! After all, pumpkins come in a variety of colours. You can use beige or cream yarn to make your pumpkin. Pumpkins even come in shades of yellow, green, and red!

How can I wash my pumpkin crochet coasters?
We always recommend hand washing crochet items with a mild dish soap or detergent. But you can also place your coasters in a mesh laundry bag or pillow case and throw them in the washing machine on gentle/delicate cycle.
To dry, gently squeeze or press out the excess water (rather than wringing, as it can distort the stitches). Then re-shape and dry flat on a drying rack or towel, out of direct sunlight.

There’s something so satisfying about stitching up a little handmade pumpkin — and this crochet coaster is the perfect bite-sized project to embrace the season. With just a few rounds and a couple of scraps of yarn, you’ll have a cheerful fall accent that’s as functional as it is festive.
Whether you’re crocheting your first coaster or making a full set for friends and family, this beginner-friendly pattern is sure to bring on the autumn smiles. So grab your favourite yarn, cozy up with a warm drink, and let those fall colours inspire your next crochet creation!
