Cut out the paper pattern pieces.
Choose the main colour for your stocking -- we used red felt.Set one piece of felt on top of another.
Place the main pattern piece on top of the felt and cut through both pieces.
Cut out the cuff of the stocking on a double layer of white felt. Cut out the heel and toe pieces individually on white.
Step 3: Glue the white felt pieces onto the stocking
Add a small line of glue to the top of one of the stocking pieces.
Place the cuff into place, pressing it down so the top overlaps just over 1/8 inch.
Add the heel and toe pieces to the bottom right and left of the stocking with a little bit of glue.
Then flip the second stocking piece over and glue on the other cuff piece. It should be on the opposite side from the first, so that the back of the stocking will have a cuff as well.
Step 4: Blanket stitch the stocking together
Line up the 2 stocking pieces with the white details on the outside. Use a sewing needle and a double layer of red thread (or 2 strands of embroidery floss) to blanket stitch the edges together, starting in one of the top corners. To do this, sew from the front into the back piece of felt and pull the thread through. Leave a couple inches of tail on the thread to tie in later.
Come back to the front through all the layers of felt.
Before pulling the thread through, wrap the thread around the needle.
Pull the thread so that it forms a stitch that's joined right at the edge of the ornament.
Make the same stitch about 1/8 inch down the side. Don't pull the thread too tightly, or else the edges will start to curl in.
Continue the same stitch all the way around the edge of the stocking until you reach the other top edge.Don't sew the top of the stocking shut yet.
Stuff the stocking with poly-fill stuffing.
Step 5: Add an ornament hanger and finish sewing the stocking
Cut a piece of string about 8 inches long to use as the ornament hanger. We used baker's twine with a metallic stripe.Tie a knot in the string, making a loop.
Place the ornament hanger in-between the stocking layers, knot end down beside the stuffing.
As you stitch across the top, closing off the ornament, hold the hanger out of the way to stitch around it, as needed.
Finish stitching across the top and tie the beginning and end of the thread into a double knot.
Cut off the extra thread close to the knot.
