When my oldest daughter was a toddler, we went on a nature walk to hunt down some amazing fall leaves on Thanksgiving day. (Remember, Thanksgiving is in October here in Canada). We found tons of brightly coloured leaves, but I didn’t know what to do with them. I ended up drawing little happy faces with names under them with a sharpie, and then we set them out on the Thanksgiving table as place cards. And even though they weren’t fancy, they were so adorable!
Grandpa’s leaf had a smiley face with a beard. Grandma’s leaf had glasses and curly hair. Everyone was excited to see the face we had drawn on the brightly coloured leaves. That was back in the day that we only had one baby, so it was much easier to just sit at the kitchen table and focus on our crafts. (Ah, seems so relaxing now…)
Now that my oldest is five years old, she’s at the age where she loves to collect beautiful leaves on her walk home from school. We have a pile of them sitting on our dryer right now (on top of the Costco sized case of Diet Coke… where else are you supposed to store so many cans of Coke??). I’d pull out the sharpie again, but I’m pretty sure she’d want to use it herself, and then my three year old would want to use it too, and then we’d end up with sharpie on hands, faces, walls, and tables. Or at least that’s the image of the chaos I have in my mind.
These fall crafts for kids are wonderful! I’m always amazed how creative people are! There are lots of leaf ideas here, a few Halloween ones, some Thanksgiving ones and then lots of general craft ideas that my kids are going to LOVE. I hope your kids will love them too. : )
