Don’t you love simple crafts you can easily do with your kids? Easter is coming and these fun little candy filled Easter egg carton chicks are a super cute craft idea for kids. Not to mention they would make an adorable table setting accessory for Easter dinner. Your kids would be super proud to show them off!
I saw these first at Paper Plate and Plane and knew that my 5 year old was going to love helping me out with them! All you need is an empty egg carton, yellow paint, construction paper, tape, glue and a black marker.
Cut out two sections of the egg carton.
Cut them apart and then trim the edges so they are even.
You’ll want to trim it until the two egg carton pieces can completely close together without any gaps.
Add a small piece of tape on both sides of the egg carton so that it can easily fold open and closed.
Open it up and start painting the inside of the egg carton. It will be much easier on your fingers if you don’t have to hold onto the wet paint!
Flip them over and start painting the outside of the carton pieces. I just used dollar store yellow paint. Try to find a non-toxic paint since you’ll want to be adding some candy inside of this.
I’d recommend painting it with at least two coats so it has some decent coverage.
I used construction paper for the wings and beak, but you can use card stock, printing paper or whatever you have on hand. Cut out two yellow triangles (with one end extended so you have a flap for gluing) for the wings and two orange triangles for the beak.
Add some white glue to the paper pieces:
And press them firmly onto the inside of the egg carton pieces. You can see below I’ve added the beak pieces:
Add glue to the yellow triangles, and attach them to both sides of the bottom egg carton pieces, to make the wings:
Use a magic marker with a relatively thin tip to draw two black dots above the beak for the eyes. I like to use a Sharpie with a “brush” tip.
Next, take your orange paper and cut out the feet. There’s really no way to describe the shape. Just do your best to make them look like mine below.
Finally, glue the feet to the bottom of the egg carton and you are done!
I love that you can fill them with your favourite Easter candies!
This makes such a cute Easter craft for kids. Especially if they make enough for everyone at the Easter table!
These would be great with any small candies. I used Cadbury’s mini eggs, but you could easily use jelly beans or even those chocolate eggs covered in foil.
They make a great activity to keep the kids occupied for a little while and make me so excited for spring to come!
At the time of year when you probably have tons of egg cartons after dying Easter eggs, this is a cute and easy Easter craft for kids. Try it as a cute decoration for the Easter table, as a fun treat for your child to take as a teacher gift, or just as a fun Sunday afternoon activity. It’s fun, cute and very simple!
