DIY Halloween Wine Bottles

Turn empty bottles into spooky Halloween characters with this easy DIY craft. This simple project is a fun way to recycle bottles while adding a handmade touch to your Halloween decorating.

Step 1: Find what you need

  • Gather your supplies and materials.

Step 2: Clean and paint the bottle

  • Clean an empty wine bottle and remove the label. You can use rubbing alcohol or Goo Gone to do this, or soak the bottle and scrub the label off.

  • Paint the bottle the base colour of your character (orange, for us). Allow the first coat to dry.

  • Add a second coat of paint and a third, if needed. Allow to dry between coats.

Step 3: Paint the face details

  • Start by painting the jack-o-lantern's eyes with black multi-surface paint.
    If you don't feel comfortable free-handing with paint you can draw lightly with pencil first. You can even cut yourself a stencil and trace it onto the bottle.

  • Then give your jack-o-lantern a nose and mouth, and allow to dry.

Step 4: Add a finishing touch

  • To give your jack-o-lantern a decorative touch, cut a piece of twine about 2 feet long.

  • Wrap the twine around the top of the bottle a couple of times, and then tie it into a bow.

  • Your Halloween wine bottle is complete!
