This felt burger is so fun and easy to make -- and it looks good enough to eat! And all it takes is a love for cute crafts and some beginner sewing skills.
Print our free DIY felt burger template (find the link in the materials list above!) and cut out the shapes.
Hold the pattern pieces on top of the felt to cut them out. You can pin the pattern to the felt to make it easier to cut, or trace around the template with chalk or a gel pen.Use tan felt for the buns and 2 shades of brown for the burger. You'll need 2 of each of the pieces (except the grill marks).
Step 3: Add sesame seed details
On the larger circle of felt use white or cream embroidery floss to make small, randomly placed stitches. These represent sesame seeds on top of the bun.
Step 4: Stitch the bun pieces together
Once you're happy with the sesame seeds, place this piece on top of the smaller felt circle.Turn them over so you can see the smaller circle. Align them so one side matches up and the other overlaps.
Begin sewing the 2 pieces together with a blanket stitch. Start by bringing the needle up through both pieces, about 1/8 inch away from the edge.Pull the thread almost all the way through and tie the front thread to the tail in a double knot.
Tuck the tail inside the bun and continue your blanket stitches. Bring the needle back up through the felt and, before you pull the needle all the way though, wrap the thread around the needle.
Repeat the blanket stitch around the bun. Pull the felt edges to match as you get closer to the other side.Continue this process until there's only a 1 to 2 inch opening remaining.
Add stuffing to the bun until it's evenly and firmly filled.
Close off the bun, continuing the blanket stitch. Finish off your thread by going through the last stitch a few times. Then push the needle down at the seam and bring it up through the top layer of felt. Cut the excess thread and pinch the felt to hide the thread inside.
Repeat step 4 to sew the other half of the bun together in the same way. The bottom of the bun doesn't need any sesame seeds.
Step 5: Put the patty together
Attach the grill marks to one half of the patty (lighter brown circle) by sewing down the middle of them, using a backstitch.
Connect the bottom half of the patty with a blanket stitch, stuffing it a bit before closing it off.For the patty, don't add too much stuffing, since you want it to be flat, rather than rounded like the bun.
Now have fun making all your desired toppings! We have templates for each of the pieces: just scroll down to find the link. Cut a simple square of cheese and squiggle of ketchup, or take your time sewing pickles, tomatoes, bacon, and more! The stitched toppings can be made with a simple running stitch or a backstitch for more stability.
