DIY Coffee Filter Spider Suncatchers

These spider suncatchers are super cute, made with simple supplies like coffee filters and markers. Make a colorful spider web and then draw a black spider silhouette. These DIY paper suncatchers look great shining in the window or as part of Halloween party decor.

Step 1: Find what you need

Gather your supplies and materials.

Step 2: Fold and cut the coffee filter

Smooth out a coffee filter. Fold it in half, in half again, and in half one last time (3 times total).
Cut a curved line along the open end of the coffee filter, creating 2 points on either side.
Here's the web shape you'll have when you unfold the coffee filter.

Step 3: Add colour and water

Gather a few different shades (or a few complementary colours) of washable marker.
Scribble across the coffee filter with the first colour, leaving white space between the sections.
Cover the coffee filter with the remaining colours. The more you cover the coffee filter the darker the colour it'll be.
Leave white space between the colours if you want a lighter coloured web.
To add water we'll be using an eyedropper. You can also use a spray bottle or simply drip water from a small teaspoon.
Add the water a bit at a time so you don't add too much, and so you can see the colours start to spread and blend.
Repeat until the coffee filter is saturated.
Allow to dry.

Step 4: Draw a web and spider

Here's what the coffee filter web will look like once dry.
Draw the web with a black crayon. Make lines from each point meeting in the middle.
Then mimic the web shape by drawing curved lines connecting the previous lines.
Repeat, making smaller lines closer to the center.
Then use a paint marker to draw a spider on the web.
You can choose the position of the spider, how big you want it to be, or even if you want multiple spiders on the web!
Your coffee filter spider suncatcher is complete!
Now have fun making them in all different colour combinations!
