I’ve been majorly planning and organizing myself lately so I can work a full time job AND keep on blogging – which is just not an easy task! This past weekend I did six awesome projects (yupp, SIX!) that I plan to blog about over the next couple of weeks. Sorry for being MIA for so long, but I’m back with a plan and ready to go!
Can you believe it’s almost Halloween? We had a playdate this weekend and I made these adorable cheese and pretzel broomsticks as a snack. They were a huge hit! (I know I know, I only made 5, but hey, they ALL got eaten).
These are sooooooooooooo easy, and they are so freaking cute! All you need are some pretzel sticks, some string cheese and some chives (although, if you are in a hurry, the chives are totally optional).
I got the inspiration from Cocinando Con Catman.
These are super easy. Cut the cheese string into thirds:
Spread apart the cheese into thin strands to make it look like a broomstick end:
Okay, this part was admittedly a little tedious. But these are the types of things I’m willing to for my kids. And it helped that I didn’t have to make very many.
Poke the pretzel into the end of the cheese string. Just be careful not to push it too far or else the cheese will start to split.
Luckily we still had plenty of chives leftover in our garden (ha… they are practically taking over our garden).
Find the skinniest chives that you can possibly find, and just tie it neatly around the cheese, using your fingernails to pinch off the ends:
Fortunately the chive just held itself in place, even though I only tied it once. I was a little worried the knot would fall right out, but the cheese just made it stick. Check out how adorable the little broomstick tie looks:
These snacks are terrific if you are having a playdate… well, a small playdate anyway. Or if you just want a cute little treat for your kiddos. You probably don’t want to be making a whole lot of these or you will go crazy peeling the cheese. Since I was only making a few it was still therapeutic. I don’t know about you, but I always feel a little creative burst when I open a cheese string. I just can’t eat it without making it into something first!
I made these with the Cheese Strings commercial set to “Wild Thing” in my head pretty much from the moment I picked up the Cheese Strings in the grocery store. Is that commercial still on? Probably not… But now I’ve probably put that song in your head… so, you’re welcome!
Cheese, yum. Pretzels, yum. Chives… okay, well maybe yum is an overstatement for chives, but at least they make them cute. Who knew pretzels were so versatile?
