Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Prepare the pot
- Trace the top of your pot onto a piece of foam.
- Flip your foam over and trace the bottom of your pot onto the foam. Try to line up your 2 marks.
- Cut the foam using your 2 trace marks as a guide (one side will be larger than the other). Cut it until you have a rounded piece that will fit in your pot.
- Test to ensure the foam fits in your pot.
- Paint the top of the foam brown.
- Continue painting along the sides, going down about 3/4 inch. Allow to dry.
Step 3: Create the plant pieces
- Cut a piece of jewelry wire about 5 to 6 inches long.
- Use a pair of round nose pliers to curl the end into a small loop.
- Start beading the wire. You can create a pattern with different styles of beads, or just use 1 type.
- Keep adding beads until you’re happy with the length. (The one pictured is about 3 inches).
- Insert the end of the wire through the bottom of the top bead.
- Pull the wire tight to hold the bead in place. This will hold the whole strand of beads in place and prevent them from falling off.
- Trim the wire so there’s about 1 to 2 inches of wire remaining.
- Repeat another 30 to 40 times, making various lengths of beaded wire ranging from 2 to 4 inches long.
Step 4: Assemble the plant in the pot
- Insert the painted foam into your pot. If the foam isn’t snug, glue it into place.
- Insert your beaded wires into the foam, wire end first, starting in the middle.
- Continue placing your wires into the foam, working your way out to the edge.
- Bend and adjust the wires so they sit the way you want them to.
- Your beaded plant is complete!
- Use different beads and different lengths of wire to make each plant unique! You can also make larger beaded plants with longer beaded wires and larger plant pots.
Helpful Tips:
- If the wire feels loose in the foam, you can secure it with a small dab of hot glue before pressing it in.
- If you don’t have foam, you can use a regular kitchen sponge instead. Floral foam blocks also work.

What kind of wire works best for a beaded plant?
We used 24 gauge jewelry wire for our plant beading project. It’s important to use a wire that’s sturdy enough to hold its shape, but flexible enough to curl and bead easily.
We recommend using 20 to 24 gauge jewelry or floral wire. Both types of wire will provide the sturdiness and flexibility required for this cute DIY decor. Floral wire also comes in green, if you prefer not to use a metallic coloured wire.

Can I use different types of beads for my wire and bead plant?
Absolutely! We used 2 different types of beads for our bead plants, but there are so many options for this adorable decor project!
Seed beads, pony beads, faceted glass beads, and leaf-shaped beads all work great for this craft. You can even buy variety packs so you can mix and match for each plant you create!

How do I keep the foam from moving around in the miniature beaded plant pot?
If your foam doesn’t fit snugly into the pot, use hot glue or a few dots of tacky glue around the edges before inserting it into the pot. You can also add a bit of crumpled paper or aluminum foil underneath the foam for extra support, if it’s not quite tall enough.

This DIY beaded plant is a great way to add some sparkle and greenery to your space without having to remember to water it! It’s fun to make, easy to change up for different styles, and makes a cheerful handmade gift. Whether you keep it on your desk or display it on a windowsill, this little plant is sure to brighten your day!
