This charming paper honeycomb mushroom is so cute and surprisingly simple to make. Print the template, trace your pieces, and assemble a paper mushroom that looks straight out of an enchanted forest.
Print our free paper honeycomb mushroom template and cut out the shapes.(We recommend printing the template on cardstock or copying the pattern onto cardboard for a sturdy template that’s easy to trace).
Trace the mushroom cap onto red paper and cut out 23 pieces.
Fold each of the cap pieces in half from right to left.
Open the fold and add a horizontal line of glue in the middle of one side.
Fold in half again, pressing down to make it stick. Repeat for the rest of the pieces.
Add 2 horizontal lines of glue to the folded shape: 1 near the top, and 1 near the bottom.
Set one of the other folded shapes on top. Line up the edges as you connect the 2 pieces of paper.
Repeat this process until all the cap pieces are connected.
Make sure the edges are well lined up, then attach a medium sized binder clip to keep the papers together as the glue dries.(It will take several hours for the glue to dry, but we prefer to leave it overnight.)
Step 3: Make the mushroom stem
Trace the mushroom stem onto white paper and cut out 15 pieces.
Fold each of the stems in half from right to left. Unfold and add a horizontal line of glue to the middle.Fold the stem in half again and repeat with the rest of the pieces.
Add glue near the top and bottom of the folded stem.
Connect the next stem, and repeat with the rest. Line up the edges and use a binder clip to keep them together.
Step 4: Open the shapes
Once the glue is completely dry, remove the binder clip from the cap and slowly open the papers to reveal a honeycomb shape.
Add 2 lines of glue to one of the flat sides (the former top or bottom of the bundle).
Bring the outside edges together, creating the mushroom cap shape. Secure the papers in place with small binder clips as the glue dries.
Repeat with the mushroom stem.
Step 5: Attach the cap to the stem
Once the glue is dry, remove the binder clips from the stem and set it upright. Use the template to cut a large circle from white paper. Add a generous amount of glue to it.
Place the spot, glue side down, onto the top of the stem.
Add more glue on top of the stem (on the spot) and connect the center of the cap to the stem. Allow to dry.
Step 6: Add spots to the cap
Trace the circle templates and cut about 10 more spots in varying sizes.
Use a generous amount of glue to attach them around the mushroom cap. Hold them in place for a minute until they stay on their own.
Your paper honeycomb mushroom is complete!
