String colourful beads on fishing line to create this pretty and functional DIY craft. Make a rainbow coloured beaded plant hanger, or choose a colour scheme that will fit your decor!
Cut 4 pieces of clear fishing line to be 5 feet (60 inches) long.Note: We're using black thread in this tutorial so you can see how to make the plant hanger (since you wouldn't be able to see the fishing line in the photos).
Gather the strings together, lining up the ends, and then fold the bundle in half.
Attach the fishing line to the wooden ring. Slide the folded end through the ring and then open up the loop. Bring the loop down and around the ring, pulling it tight to secure it.
Use painter's tape to secure the ring to your working surface.
Step 3: Create the long beaded sections
Choose 1 large bead to be the top of the plant hanger. Thread all 8 strands through the bead and pull the bead up to the top.
Now divide the fishing line into 4 sections of 2 strands each.
String beads onto the 2 leftmost strands, continuing until the beaded portion is 16 inches long.Choose a variety of sizes and colours. You can make a pattern or add them randomly.
Repeat, adding beads to the other 3 cord sections. As you work you can keep the beads in place by taping the end of the beaded section onto your working surface.
Step 4: Add beads to the divided cords
Separate the cords so you see 8 separate strands.
Add beads to the leftmost strand until that section reaches 3-1/2 inches long.Repeat on strand 2.
Continue, adding 3-1/2 inches of beads to all 8 strands.
Step 5: Connect different strands
Now ignore the leftmost and rightmost strands. Bring strands 2 and 3 together, then connect strands 4 and 5, and strands 6 and 7.There should be 3 bundles with 2 cords each in the center with lone strands on the left and right.
Add beads onto the first bundle (cords 2 and 3) until that section is 4 inches long.
Repeat for the next 2 bundles.
Now bring the unconnected strands in towards the middle. The cords that were previously on the very left and right should be in the center.
Add beads onto these 2 cords, matching the other 4 inch sections.
Step 6: Finish off the plant hanger
Gather the fishing line together and tie all 8 strands together into a secure knot, close to the last beads. You can reinforce the knot with a dot of super glue, if you'd like.
Cut the excess fishing line close to the knot.
Your beaded plant hanger is complete!
Now place a mason jar or plant pot inside the beaded holder and enjoy displaying it in the window or outside!
