Cut 18 pieces of 3mm macrame cord to be 8 inches long.
Cut 1 piece of 3mm cord to be 20 inches long.
Fold the 20 inch cord in half and slide a wooden bead over the loop.
Tie the looped end of the cord into a knot, creating an ornament hanger about 1 inch long.Slide the wooden bead up against the knot.
Step 3: Attach the cords to the center "trunk"
Fold one of the 8 inch cords in half. With the loop on the left side, place this cord under your center cord, right below the bead.
Fold a second 8 inch cord in half and place it on top of the center cords with the loop on the right.
Place the loose ends of the second cord down through the loop of the first cord. Then take the loose ends from the first cord and pull them over top and through the second loop.
Take both sets of loose ends and pull them tight, creating a square knot.Push the knot up against the wood bead.
Step 4: Repeat with the rest of the cords
Start the next square knot with the first loop on the right. (You want this knot to be reversed compared to the previous knot).
Add the second cord with the loop on the left. Put the left ends up through the loop and the right ends down through.
Bring the ends through and pull them tight. Push this knot up against the previous knot.
Continue adding square knots, alternating which side you start the loop.Once the remaining cords have been added, cut off the center cords about 2 inches below the last knot.
Step 5: Trim the cords
Cut the sides of the 8 inch cords on an angle going out, starting from the top.
Flip the tree over and make the same angled cut, so that the sides match.
