These apple crisp stuffed apples are SOOOO GOOD! This is comfort food at it's finest! Fill your hollowed out apple "bowls" with the warm, saucy apple filling and top with the buttery crumble. Then bake the apple crisp inside of the apple! Top it with vanilla ice cream and gooey caramel sauce - Delicious!!! Such a perfect fall dessert (and a very impressive dessert!) that the whole family will love!
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, oats, sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon.
Cut the butter into small cubes. Add them to the crumble mixture, then cut them in with a pastry knife or two forks until the mixture is crumbly. Set this mixture aside.
Prepare the Apple Filling
Peel 3 of the apples, then chop them into small chunks.
In a medium pot, add the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and apples. Simmer over medium-low heat for 10 to 12 minutes or until the apples start to soften.
Assemble the Apple Crisp Stuffed Apples
Cut the tops off the remaining 6 apples. Use a spoon or melon baller to scoop out the core and some of the apple flesh. Don't scoop out all of the apple flesh, just enough to make a bowl for the apple filling.
Place the hollowed out apples on a parchment lined baking sheet. Fill the apples with the warm apple filling.
Add a generous amount of the crumble topping on top of each apple.
Bake the apples at 400F for 12 to 15 minutes or until the crumble topping is crispy.
Remove the apples from the oven. Serve with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. (Optional)
Enjoy!
Notes
If your crumble mixture looks dry, drizzle some of the buttery liquid leftover from the apple filling on top of the stuffed apples about half way through cooking to add extra moisture and flavour.
