Print out the cone template (link in materials list above) and cut along the line for the cone size of your choice.
Trace the cone template on to cardstock.
Cut the cardstock along the marked line.
Roll up the cardstock into a cone shape and secure it with scotch tape.
Step 3: Attach the first row of pasta shells to the cone
Add a bit of hot glue on the back of the pasta shell (the rounded side) near the point of the shell.
Attach the shell to the bottom of the cone while the cone is sitting flat on your table or work surface.Place the pasta so the bottom part sticks out at an angle and touches the table. This will ensure the tree sits flat once it's complete.
You should now be able to see where the glue needs to be placed on the cone. Apply a short line of glue from the glue gun, enough to attach several pasta shells.
Attach the next few pasta shells. Make sure to keep the cone flat on the table and place the shells so the top points line up at the same height.
Continue to add small lines of glue and attach the pasta shells as you go, completing the bottom row.
Step 4: Fill the rest of the cone with pasta shells
Add glue to the back of a pasta shell to start the second row.
Place the shell above and in between two shells from the first row.
Apply a short line of glue for the next few pasta shells.
Continue adding pasta shells to fill the second row.
Keep adding rows of pasta in the same way until you reach the top of the cone. You may need to pick and choose the shells that will fit properly as you finish each row (some shells are rolled more tightly than others and will be able to squeeze in smaller spaces).
Step 5: Spray paint the pasta tree
Once the hot glue has dried, remove any long strands of glue.Hold the tree at the top and spray paint the bottom, making sure to cover the bottom of the shells in the first row.(Be sure to use spray paint outside or in a well ventilated area.)
Spray paint the rest of the tree and allow it to dry for about 30 minutes.
Step 6: Add a bow (optional)
Cut a piece of ribbon (around 10 inches) and tie it into a bow.
Apply glue tape or hot glue to the back of the bow.
Attach the bow to the top of the pasta tree.
