Kate’s 1st birthday party is coming up in a few weeks and I’ve been making a list of awesome first birthday party ideas to get me in the party mood. There are seriously hundreds of 1st birthday party ideas, but I’ve narrowed it down to eight fun and creative favourite party themes.
The thumbnails below include links to the original sources:
1. Rainbow first birthday party ideas
If you can’t tell from the rest of my blog, I LOVE rainbow colours. Rainbow cake, rainbow balloons, rainbow plastic cutlery, rainbow cupcakes, rainbow fruit cups or veggie tray, rainbow plates, rainbow jello, the list is endless!
2. Lady bug first birthday party ideas
Ladybug invitations, ladybug cupcakes, red and black liquorice, red and black decorations, polka dot balloons, etc.
3. Magic 1st birthday party
Think bunny in a hat ideas, fake moustaches, tootsie pops, stars, magic wands, top hats, capes, popcorn and of course a few magic tricks!
4. Barn yard first birthday party ideas
Red and white plaid, country market food table, daisies, overalls, cookies decorated as barn yard animals, barn treat bags, etc.
5. Tea party first birthday ideas
A girly picnic, tutus, finger foods, mini sandwiches, cups and saucers, fancy cupcakes, flowers, lemonade, and of course lots of tea!
6. Sesame Street 1st birthday party ideas
Elmo, big bird, cookie monster, and oscar the grouch party hats, red, yellow, green and blue decorations, Muppet grab bags, veggie trays in the shape of Muppets, a Sesame Street sign with your child’s name on it, and look at the adorable Muppet cupcakes with marshmallow eyes and 1/2 Oreo cookie mouths! Check out the party hat thumbnail link below for an AWESOME looking Sesame Street party!
7. Hawaiian luau 1st birthday party ideas
Hawaiian leis, grass skirts, pineapples and other tropical fruit, hula hooping, juice with cocktail umbrellas, hibiscus, tropical flowers in their hair, palm trees, etc.
8. Very Hungry Caterpillar 1st birthday party ideas
This is only going to make sense if you are as huge a fan of the book as we are: apples, pears, plums, strawberries, oranges, chocolate cake, ice cream cones, pickles, swiss cheese, salami, lolly pops, cherry pie, sausages, and watermelon, and that’s all I can remember off the top of my head, but check the book for more! See the middle link below for another AWESOME looking party!
So, I’m not sure which direction I’m going to go, but at least I know that there are lots of easy (and not so easy!) options to choose from! All the themes are so cute I just might have to do a little mixing and matching!

So what are you leaning towards?!
Right now I’m leaning towards the rainbow theme, but I might have to throw in some Sesame Street and Very Hungry Caterpillar just because they are so cute! 🙂
I know, it’s almost impossible to pick just one!
And thanks, I will check out your party! 🙂

Tea party seems fun for the kids! I’d love to try that for the upcoming birthday celebration of my daughter.
