It's difficult trying to come up with 3rd birthday gift ideas, especially when your child already has everything they need! Tomorrow is Leah's 3rd birthday (ahhh!) but I didn't want to go over the top with presents. So I decided to buy one thing, a Baby Alive doll, and then make everything else to go along with it: I made cloth diapers for the Baby Alive doll (tutorial here) which also fit her other dolls: And just because I think she'll really enjoy these, I threw together some … [Read more...]
Crafts to Make For Kids (or With Kids)
Here you'll find lots of kid-friendly crafts that you can make for children. First you make it, then you give it to them, and then they have fun with it!
These are also projects that kids will love to "help" you make. (That's code for saying you'll probably be doing most of the work for them... depending on their age). And that's okay! Kids LOVE watching you make things and they love it even more when you make things for them!
As promised in this how to make bedlinens for an IKEA Duktig doll's bed series, here is a quick tutorial for how to make a reversible blanket. How to make a reversible blanket for an IKEA doll bed Cut out two pieces of fabric, both 20" x 20". Fabric choice isn't overly important, one of mine was cotton and one of them was flannel: Cut out a piece of 20" x 20" quilt batting. Put the two pieces of fabric together with right sides together and place them on top of the quilt … [Read more...]
What do you do when you can't make up your mind what colour something should be? You make it reversible! I have two cute bedskirts for the IKEA Duktig doll's bed that I painted - one pink tulle bedskirt and one blue tulle bedskirt, and I'm going to have a set of reversible bedlinens that will work with both! I posted a similar tutorial for how to make a doll's pillow and pillow case last week, but that one was just so small for the doll's bed that I had to do another. This time it's a much … [Read more...]
How do you make a tulle bedskirt more poofy? You make it with more tulle! And for the IKEA Duktig doll's bed that I painted and have already made another tulle bedskirt for, 4 yards of tulle seemed to do the trick! Baby Alive is going to sleep in the lap of luxury in this little doll's bed when I finish all the pillows and accessories: Leah's birthday is at the end of the month, so I'm going to be busy making all the bed linens for the IKEA Duktig doll's bed this week. I'm sure there … [Read more...]
Is it bad that I'm getting addicted to making tulle bedskirts? It's like I'm a glutton for punishment because tulle is so frustrating to work with, but I just can't help it because they are so pretty! I posted the tutorial for how I made the tulle bedskirt for Leah's bed a little while back, and now I've made a miniature tulle bedskirt for her IKEA Duktig doll's bed. Except, for my first tulle bedskirt for an IKEA doll's bed, I wasn't 100% happy. I'm also working on a second tulle … [Read more...]
You know the IKEA Duktig doll's bed that I painted last week? I've had big plans to spruce it up for the Baby Alive doll that we plan to give Leah for her birthday at the end of the month (the one that I made the cloth doll diapers for last week). I started today by making a pillow and pillow case for the doll's bed. Now, admittedly, this pillow is a little on the small side for the size of the doll's bed. I was running out of fabric so I made it as big as I could with what I had. Maybe … [Read more...]
What do you like to do to make Valentine's Day special for your family? My sister sent me a link to a Pottery Barn chair backer, and I thought, I can make that! And I made it for more like $3, rather than the $24 it's selling for at Pottery Barn! I had never seen this idea before, but I think it's so cute for kids! It's basically an over-sized, felt envelope that straps to the back of a chair where you can leave all your little Valentine notes and treats. You remember those Easy … [Read more...]
Leah's 3rd birthday is at the end of the month, and we got her a Baby Alive doll to go with the IKEA bed that I painted earlier this week. Is it just me, or is Baby Alive a strange name for a doll? At least she's a cute doll that kind of resembles Leah when she was a baby. Just like the IKEA bed, I have plans to make some accessories for this doll, which started today by making her some cloth diapers. And check out how cute they turned out in the photos below! If only there were more … [Read more...]
Since we are already on the topic of painting beds this week, I thought I'd continue by painting the IKEA Duktig Doll's Bed that we gave Leah for Christmas this year. It's a simple wooden bed frame (doll sized of course) and it comes with some very simple bedding and a flat looking thing that's supposed to be a pillow. I have big plans to dress up this bed with fancy bedlinens and make it a little more inviting for her dolls and stuffed animals! I've been planning to paint it white to … [Read more...]
Yesterday I posted a tutorial for how to make a fabric flower headband for a baby, using old clothes in your donation pile. I am really happy with how it turned out! Kate looks super cute in her headband, so I had to make a headband for Leah as well. Leah's turned out wonderfully too! My girls seem to have a lot of crazy hair troubles. Kate's baby hair is just starting grow long enough to get into her eyes. Leah is nearly 3 years old and has always been blessed with a ton of hair. The … [Read more...]
